Step into the future of Extreme Gear racing!
(Patch Notes, Music List and Credits included)
Sonic Riders Future (SRF) is back with a brand new update!
While still on Volume 1, we are introducing a new way of representing our updates, we call these "Chapters" and they are considered "Minor Updates". Chapters are referenced from Jet Set Radio Future to show what part of the story the player is in.
However, this is not to say that these Chapter updates don't have a lot in store for players. These updates generally consist of things that are added, mostly minor additions and updating existing content from vanilla.
So strap yourself in, this Chapter is truly "Super!"
The main attraction for Sonic Riders Future (Vol. 1: Chapter 2) is the new Super Forms! The highly anticipated and most obvious Super Forms to be introduced after Blaze and Silver were added are Burning Blaze and Super Silver and our first "lore-friendly" Super Form, Blooming Cosmo. All 3 of them are set to tear up the competition!
Additionally, Super Forms/Transformations will have emission materials for their Extreme Gear. In later updates, all Super Forms/Transformations will have their own Extreme Gear emission materials.
The 3 new Super Forms takes the total playable Super transformations from 7 to 10:
For the new Sonic Riders Future update, Metal Sonic received a model update. This version aims to improve the poly count while making him feel more like he was designed for Riders from the start.
THE HEAD
The old spines were small and oddly shaped, so they were redesigned with a sharper, more aerodynamic look. The visor was also adjusted to make Metal Sonic look more aggressive, with shades added to further emphasize this look and which also carried over to Neo Metal Sonic.
THE BODY
The torso, engine, and nose were exaggerated for a more aerodynamic design. The cuffs now have larger spikes, and the hands were slightly enlarged to better match other Riders models.
THE LEGS
The legs received the biggest changes. The old design looked out of place and lacked mechanical sense, so they were redesigned with a simpler, more familiar Metal Sonic look. The toes and ankles now match the original Metal Sonic, with a spherical joint connecting them.*
*The joint will remain spherical until the animations can be modified.
THE TEXTURES
The textures are now more saturated and have higher contrast. The limbs and joints have a more chrome-like finish, while the blue has been changed to a darker navy blue.
BEFORE
AFTER
New model also means new skins for Metal Sonic! They replace Metal Shadow, Mecha Sonic Mk. II from Sonic & Knuckles and Mecha Sonic MK. III from Sonic Adventure.
Overall, Neo Metal Sonic received the most changed design.
THE HEAD
The head was taken from the recently released Neo Metal model for Sonic Rumble Party, in which it was an edited version of the one used in the cutscenes of Sonic Heroes. Extra geometry was added to shape the white marks on each spike and while also making the eyes sharper. As said above, glasses were also given to this upgraded form.
THE BODY
The torso was changed slightly by adding a silver line on the edge of the engine and adding more geometry to the center of it. The cape has also been fixed. The arms have been kept mostly intact while the feet have been completely changed to be closer to the original design Sonic Heroes design.
THE LEGS
To keep it consistent with the base form, the joints for the feet are also connected by a sphere.
THE TEXTURES
Textures have been updated to be more saturated and with higher contrast.

In the Sonic Riders community, we have a running joke that Cream looks "sick" due to her weird looking fur colour. We later found that Cream's low-poly "multiplayer" character model had the correct colours. 20 years later since the release of Sonic Riders back in 2006 and 8 years into the modding scene, we finally were able to bring the original colours back!
This process was extensively done through Photoshop and Blender and during development, some interesting discoveries were found, such as Cream's wrist cuffs never being UV mapped on her skate models.
BEFORE
AFTER
Cream also had by far one of the worst UV layouts of the original 16 characters of Sonic Riders, so it was fitting that she would be the first to receive a brand new UV overhaul. New UV changes also allowed more creativity when creating brand new skins! They replace the Neutral, Hero and Dark Chao variants.
The music list for Sonic Riders Future (Vol. 1) received an overwhelming positive review but we changed a handful of songs. Primarily the ones that were considered the "weakest" of the list or there was a better alternative.
The Dolphin banner has been changed, colour changed to hot pink and it now features Burning Blaze, Super Silver and Blooming Cosmo
Main Menu video changed, now has Burning Blaze, Super Silver and Blooming Cosmo replacing the original video which had Blaze, Cosmo and Vector
Shadow's finger pointing hand for his board model and Advantage skate models has been fixed due to bone assigning issues
Cream's hand bones for her board model has been fixed due to bone assigning issues
Cream's wrist cuffs on her skate models have been UV mapped
The "CUBE" on all Knuckles' bike models has now been removed
Fixed a crash when picking Ulala with any skate Extreme Gear
On the Character Select Screen, the empty character slots featuring the "?" has been made completely "blank", this is to stop people asking "how do I unlock the other characters?" question (no character icon = empty)
The "SPEED" texture has been removed from the empty character slots
The last "?" on the Character Select Screen has been changed to "Random" (upon choosing this option, the first button press will take you to a random character, press it again for a random Extreme Gear and there is a chance that your skin will be randomised too)
Changed the "Coming soon" text colour on the character stat box to cyan due to illegibility
"Random the Select" is now the name for the "Random" character slot
Wave's CSS portrait now has her correct tattoo colour due to an oversight by the original developers
